A rare and hard to find antique wood opal ring set in 18 carat gold. Opalised wood is a fascinating and rare form of fossilised wood that has undergone a unique process of mineralisation. It is a type of petrified wood where the organic material has been replaced by opal. Wood opal became fashionable in arts and crafts jewellery from the 1900s onwards.

This example dates to circa 1930 and is set an 18 carat gold. It’s a substantial 19 x 12 mm with flashes of blue, green, pink and yellow that dance in the light like a constellation.
