Medusa has become a symbol of female empowerment because her story represents resilience, transformation, and defiance against male dominance. Originally depicted as a monstrous Gorgon, her myth has been reinterpreted as a tale of injustice—she was punished by Athena after being assaulted by Poseidon.
Medusa is in all of us. I’m sure we can all connect to her story of strength, turning her gaze into a metaphor for self-protection and resistance against patriarchal oppression.
She embodies the power of survival, the rejection of victimhood, and the ability to command fear and respect in a world that often seeks to silence women.
This is the last of a series of four Medusa pieces I have created using a pair of rare vintage 18ct cufflinks. The Medusa casting oozes quality. The casting is crisp, defined and detailed with a good three dimensional quality and weight.
I have added the Medusa face to an antique 18ct ornate floral ring shank to sit sympathetically with the intricate details of the Medusa.
